What we deliver into Grafton is largely trade and tool storage on the deep old blocks around Turf Street and Villiers Street, household storage while a renovation runs long, gear and equipment for the sporting and racing clubs, event storage that comes out once a year for the Jacaranda, and lockable overflow for businesses along Fitzroy Street with no room to expand. None of that changes how we quote it — you describe what is going inside and where, and you get one figure with the cartage already in it.

Those are starting figures, ex GST, and the grade you choose moves them more than the size does. The delivery to Grafton is priced with the unit, not billed separately afterwards.
It is a lovely town to drive through in November and a difficult one to deliver into. The canopy over the older streets is continuous in places, and unlike a power line, a tree limb is not something anybody is going to move for a delivery. Every year we assess Grafton jobs where the driveway is fine, the ground is fine, and the only question is whether there is enough air above the drop spot to get a tray up.
The workable answers are all straightforward once we know: a crane truck reaching in from a clearer position, a shorter unit, a different placement, or occasionally setting down in a clear spot and shifting it in a second lift. What does not work is finding out on the morning. If there is anything over the spot, take a photograph from directly underneath looking up and send it with your enquiry.
Most people buying a container never see it. In Grafton you have no excuse — the yard is across the bridge. Come and shut yourself in one with the doors closed, look for daylight at the roof line and the corners, walk the floor and feel for soft patches, work the locking bars. It takes ten minutes and it is the difference between buying a grade and buying a specific container.
It also means you can compare grades side by side rather than from a description. Standing a cargo-worthy unit next to an as-is one in the same row settles the question of whether the cheaper option suits your job far better than any amount of explaining does. Grafton's defining access problem is what is above the road rather than what is on it. The old town grid is planted with enormous jacarandas, camphor laurels and figs that arch right across the street, and the services underneath them are low and on timber poles. A tilt-tray with the bed up is much taller than a tilt-tray driving in, and that is where deliveries in the older streets come unstuck. The second issue is block shape: a lot of central Grafton is deep and narrow, with the house set close to one boundary and a shared or single-width drive down the side, which rules out swinging a 20ft in and is exactly why we sell more 10ft units in this postcode than anywhere else. Out through Clarenza, Waterview Heights, Great Marlow and Alumy Creek the blocks open up and the problem changes to ground — river-flat country that holds water below the surface long after the top looks dry.

Grafton and the immediate valley are commonly the same week, and sometimes quicker if the unit you want is standing in the yard and your access is straightforward. The honest constraint is truck availability rather than distance — it is a ten minute run.
