One hundred and thirty kilometres sounds like a reason to buy locally, and sometimes it is. But cartage is not a straight function of distance — it is a function of the run, and Nambucca sits at the end of a highway route we take regularly for Coffs and Sawtell. Adding the last stretch is a smaller increment than the map suggests.
The other half of the calculation is what you are getting. A container bought from a yard you can drive to is a container you can inspect before you buy it, and if that matters to you, an hour and a half up the highway is a reasonable price for it. If it does not, ask the yard to photograph the unit with its serial number showing and send the pictures before delivery.
A lot of Nambucca housing is occupied part of the year or is between owners, and the storage need that creates is specific: secure, on the property, and accessible to a caretaker or a contractor without house keys changing hands.
A 20ft with a lock box does it. The lock box — a steel shroud welded over the padlock so bolt cutters cannot bite on the shackle — is the feature that matters most on an unattended property. Beyond that, load dry, keep things off the floor, and allow some airflow if the contents will tolerate it, because on this coast condensation causes far more damage than weather does.
Nambucca is built on hills around a river mouth and the older streets reflect that. Grade is the main constraint — steep short driveways, and blocks where the house sits well above or well below the road, which is exactly the situation a crane truck is for. The streets running out to the headland and along the river are narrow with limited turning room. Away from the older parts, out along the valley and around Macksville, it is ordinary rural and semi-rural delivery: room to line up, open placement, and ground that needs judging after rain rather than assuming. Sand near the river mouth behaves as it does everywhere on this coast, and salt air applies.
